Thursday night at 6pm we will be having a Racers Ed Basics of racing class.  Included topics will be things like race line, passing or being passed, what Ifmar qualifying is, marshaling when and how, transponders, no reverse and why.  We will also be showing people how to set up their radios and speed controls first hand on their cars so they will see the difference right away on the track.  Don't be afraid to bring your questions.

I think by educating people as they get into the hobby will make new people more comfortable and will make it more fun everybody involved. When everyone knows what to do and when, race nights go even more smoothly.

Thanks,
Todd

Depending on how many races are run, usually between 10:15 and 10:45.

Do I need to bring my truck tonight for the Racers ED.

Or should I just show up and listen.

Definitely bring your truck, we'll look it over and make sure the electronics are set up properly and see if the truck set up is in the ballpark at least.  Then you'll get a chance to drive it and see how it handles and also get to try the new layout.

Mike, Justin, Todd:

Thanks for all of the wonderful and helpful advice.  there is one question I forgot to ask,  why can't you use reverse...

Todd,  the truck handles like a dream now that you turned down the sensitivity with the stearing and showed me how to set to 50% power.

thanks again to all

Reverse is ok for SC trucks, as they have full bumpers.  However for buggy and stadium truck classes, you can back into oncoming traffic and brake your truck / buggy and the oncoming one very easy.  Usually it is safer for the turn marshal to get the car, as he has a better line of sight into oncoming traffic.

Actually we had originally allowed reverse in Short Course but to have consistency through the race program and to eliminate the potential smash up derby we are no longer allowing reverse even in Short Course.  Even with the added durability the Short Course trucks have it will through off your race when someone blindly backs out in front of you while your battling for the lead.

That's exactly the problem with reverse in any class... regardless of scale (even 1:1 racing).  You're in the middle of a race and you've got a clean line as you go by a disabled vehicle--- you expect to be able to stay on that line without them backing into you whether you are battling for the lead or 16th place.

No worries, Scott. This is how we clear up mis-conceptions. What was excepted is now revoked. Now everyone (reading this) knows. BTW, there is no 'edit' button. Makes people think before hitting the 'post' button.

Although my son and I did not officially take part in the Racers Ed, we did learn a lot by the friendly racers that volunteered info as we hung out in the pits Thursday night. Jon, my 11 year old, found the racing very exciting especially the 1/8 scale cars. Are they supposed to clear the triple and the table top at once? Smiley My name is Victor, and Jon and I will now be frequenting RCE first some practice sessions with a REVO we own and eventually purchasing a Short Course truck as they look like the most fun (and affordable for us ) class.

Welcome aboard; you'll find the majority of the folks down at RCE are super helpful people and an overall nice crowd

If Mikey's driving, they are; seriously, the 1/8 4WD buggies have so much power that there isn't much they can't do. Traction is the biggest limiter for those guys on the tight indoor track.
